A Call to Volunteering

As a charity Cambridgeshire Deaf Association, Hearing Help has been maintaining hearing aids for nearly half a century.  We are proud to say we currently have 19 venues running right across Cambridgeshire; where people with NHS issued hearing aids have their aid(s) maintained and/or collect hearing aid batteries for free.

We are also work alongside roughly 40 volunteers who give of their time to help run these hearing aid maintenance sessions.  Without our volunteers we could not reach as many people as we do, each month.

We are currently expanding our service into new venues and in tandem with new locations we of course need extra volunteers to help us with our work out in our new local community hubs we are creating.

This is a call to all those out there who think you might be able to help.

We have two volunteering roles.  Firstly, we need to bring on board Reception volunteers.  Who are the first port of call, who welcome our clients into each of the session and take down some details of the client, offer batteries and at this point also might prompt the client to book in for their next appointment.

The second role is that of Technician.  Here you will be maintaining hearing aids, replacing the tubing and/or domes dependant on the aid supplied.  You might sit with the client and ask if they are having any difficulties.  You might signpost to an outside agency who could further assist with additional needs that the client may have.

Full and ongoing training is provided to keep up to date with all the new aids that might be coming out.  You will be fully supported by our Hearing Champions who work in their designated areas and run each session.  There are regular socials that if you care to, you might like to attend, plus, work with a nice bunch of people.

Most importantly however you will be helping those who are struggling with isolation, due to hearing loss, to remain socially connected to friends and family.  Vital in this our fast-paced world.
